I have been a photography enthusiast since my
dad gave me an old Kodak Brownie camera as a child. In high school
I was the guy who didn't go anywhere without a camera taking pictures
for both the newspaper and annual. The first college application I
filled out was for Randolph Tech and their Photography curriculum.
My parents were not willing to spend the money required for equipment so
I enrolled at the local tech school in Computer Technology. I shot
for the college paper while I changed majors to Police Science.
For the next 15 years I would shoot for myself and do some weddings and
shot some macro for jewelry artisans. Today I still shoot for
myself and some activities like the Pay It Forward Foundation. My
wife is CM consultant, so she insists that I use a real (film) camera;
but I have slowly persuaded her to let me shoot digital for her as
more places have the ability to print from digital files on silver based
media for her archival needs.

Book Recommendations:

I recently picked up the Digital SLR Masterclass book by
Wildlife Photographer Andy Rouse. Below is an e-mail I sent to
Andy on the book. Following up on those comments, this book is
like having a seasoned digital photographer telling you the pitfalls to
avoid and the way you should think about doing things to create better
photographs and establish habits (workflows) that allow you to get the
most out your time when working with your digital photographs.

Andy,
I just wanted to write a short note to say thanks for a great book.
Since picking up the Digital SLR Masterclass, I have read it all the way
through. Considering I usually buy photography books expecting to use
them more as reference than reading them cover to cover, that says a
lot. I have been shooting since high school back in the late 70's and
have many other photography titles, but this one is different for some
reason. I have already recommended it to several friends and relatives
and even people who are just in the looking stages to buy a Digital SLR.
Thanks again.
